Forward Facing Camera Protective Covering
Shielding Your Vehicle Safety System from the Sun
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are driver safety technologies that can include sensors like radar, sonar, and sophisticated cameras that warn and/or assist drivers in avoiding a potential collision. The camera component in ADAS is typically referred to as a “Forward-Facing Camera” or “Front-Facing Camera.” This camera(s) are positioned/mounted on the vehicle’s windshield, usually near the rearview mirror, and is responsible for capturing visual data of the road ahead. It plays a crucial role in various ADAS functions such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian detection, and more by providing real-time information to the vehicle’s onboard computer or control system.
Would you leave your vehicle parked in the sun for hours with your computer or phone on the dashboard? Of course not, just as we shouldn’t leave our Forward-Facing Camera unprotected from the sun.
